"Deux pyramides adjacentes" / "Two adjacent pyramids"
Discovered in 1984, the Calakmul mask is one of the most enigmatic vestiges of Mayan culture. It is estimated that the piece was created between the years 660 to 750 AC; that is, more than 1,200 years ago.
Following the Mayan tradition, the masks had the function of accompanying the great lords to the underworld.
